Today was saved because of three things: loud music, Amelia Davies, and Ben and Jerry’s ice cream (specifically “new york super fudge chunk”).
Loud music = my favorite, obnoxious way of completely losing myself and regaining my sanity.
Ben and jerry’s shouldn’t even need explanation. And for the record, Half Baked is my all time favorite.
I met Amelia in 8th grade… we bonded over our weird senses of humor. Ever since then, she has consistently been there for me. She always makes me laugh. She’s my best friend. My longest relationship yet; 8 years and going strong. That’s something I’m grateful for every day.
The aforementioned things above allow me different versions of courage and today I’m living life in complete gratitude that they are in my life.
Laziest day of my life.
Normally, I’m up by 8. No matter what. 7 or 8. I’m a morning person. I love breakfast, I love the morning news, I love the feeling that you have the whole day ahead of you to get things done. … however. I think I rolled out of bed around 10. And I’m not going to lie, I loved it. I needed it, so sue me.
Instant play on netflix.com is seriously one of the best things that has ever happened to me. I mean yeah, I’m slipping into a sedentary lifestyle… but now that I can watch endless hours of sociocultural documentaries, I’m so knowledgeable about those key conversation starters (the ones that will spiral me right into the shoes of a socialite) like Meth, Miss Gay America, religious bigotry, and bong resin. On top of that, there is every episode of Hey Arnold!, Rugrats, and Weeds available to watch at my disposal. There really is no losing with netflix. Ever.
The most sensual of all pre-made grocery store foods (in my opinion… and Katheryn’s) is the rotisserie chicken. It’s one of those… oh-my-god-that-smells-so-good-how-much-is-it?-omg-$3-put-it-in-the-damn-cart… things. I’m also probably one of the classiest people you’ll ever meet… so it shouldn’t surprise you that we literally took Herb (yeah we named him) out of his little bag, put him on a cookie sheet, and just ate him off the pan with forks in the middle of the living room floor… then we watched Jersey Shore.
I would be a fool not to realize how lucky I am to have these silly things in my life. And I would be completely blind to how amazing life really is.

I feel like these three things will define me for as long as I am a nurse.
First day of clinicals. SO nervous that I didn’t think I could stomach a cup of coffee that morning… BUT around 7am, the coffee cart came rolling around the unit. I didn’t actually get a cup, but the smell was enough to keep me going. Those of you who know me KNOW that I have a torrid love affair with coffee. I’m literally so addicted to it, just a quick smell of it’s caffeinated sensuality is enough to keep me going through an 8 hour shift.
HAND. SANITIZER. I’m not necessarily going to go into detail, but the things that got on my hands today…
Hand sanitizer.
I wasn’t even tired until I got in the car to go home… then it was like BOOM I’M EXHAUSTED. So exhausted. But so happy… I got home, crawled into bed with a smile on my face and took a 2 hour nap.
